Photoshop Tutorial – Eye Dropper Color Sampler, Ruler, Notes, and Counting Tools

This is a simple tutorial on how to use the Photoshop Eye Dropper, Color Sampler, Ruler, Notes, and Counting Tools. If you have done little more than open up Adobe Photoshop, this will be a good place for you to start. This is a starting point for your long career as a Professional Retoucher!
Eye Dropper Tool
Description – This allows you to select a particular color under the cursor. That color then becomes the active color.
Options – Square pixel dimensions of 1 (Point Sample), 3 x 3, 5 x 5, etc. You can also have the option os selecting the color on the Current Layer, or All Layers.
Modifier Keys – Shift – Temporarily changes to the Color Sampler Tool.
Color Sampler Tool
Description – Unlike the Eye Dropper, this one marks up to four points, and stores the values in the Info Palette.
Options – Square pixel dimensions of 1 (Point Sample), 3 x 3, 5 x 5, etc. You can also have the option os selecting the color on the Current Layer, or All Layers.
Modifier Keys – None
Ruler Tool
Description – Measure the distance within an image, based on the Rulers and Units settings in Preferences. For example, to show inches, centimeters, pixels, etc within the Info Palette.
Options – You can draw a line within the image that appears crooked, and push the Straighten button. That will rotate the image as needed,
Modifier Keys – Shift – 45 degree angles.
Notes Tool
Description – You can store notes within the image for yourself, a co-worker, or a client. Several formats will retain this data, like PSD, TIF, and JPG.
Options – Name of the Author, and color of the note.
Modifier Keys – None
Count Tool
Description – You can mark points within the image to reference later. For example, they can be used as Call Outs, and detailed with the Notes Tool.
Options – Store in Groups, and change the color and size.
Modifier Keys – Constrain to Vertical and Horizontal.
